What do polynucleotides do?
Polynucleotides are short chains of purified DNA, taken from salmon. In the skin they supply the building blocks cells use to repair themselves, and they prompt fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen, to become more active. The longer chains also hold water in the tissue, which is where the hydration comes from.
The change is gradual, and it is about skin quality rather than volume. This is a treatment for dullness, dryness, crepe texture and fine lines. It does not fill a fold or restore a hollow.
How it compares, and what you should know
Three treatments are often discussed together and they are not interchangeable. Platelet-rich plasma works through your own growth factors, drawn from your blood on the day. A hyaluronic acid skin booster works on hydration and gives light structural support. Polynucleotides work on repair and on skin quality. Which one suits you depends on what your skin is short of, and that is a consultation question.
One contraindication is absolute. If you are allergic to fish or seafood, this treatment is not for you. Tell your practitioner before you book.
